WordPress
WordPress 2.3

The Teddypig has had one intense week and you may be wondering what I have been up to. WordPress has really advanced and through some recent checking I have totally reversed my feelings about WordPress only being useful for the more “advanced” user. So let me show you how to make WordPress way more easier than you thought it could be.

First up this is where I purchased this great Magazine Style template.

Revolution Magazine Theme by Brain Gardner

This damn template is so clear and useful handling the balancing act between focusing the readers interest and presenting as much information up front without being overwhelming or confusing. It is damn quick on everything it loads for a front page too.

1. WordPress Automatic upgrade

OMG! I have always sweated code updates for WordPress and there are still concerns but this does the task so painlessly that I cannot live without it now.

2. PlugInstaller

Ever wanted to immediately see how a plugin works with your blog or have you ever procrastinated providing a new feature because of the task involved? Check this baby out.

3. WordPress.com Stats

Best stats I have seen yet. Thanks Sybil for the 411 on this plugin.

4. Simple Tags

Let’s face it WordPress is all about not having a ton of Categories and you need some way to index your site. Well this takes the new WordPress tagging feature and does just that.
Check out my Naughty Tags page for an example of how this works.

5. TinyMCE Advanced

I just run web servers professionally so I do not code web pages very often, even if I troubleshoot them all the time, so trick automatic editors like this make sure my new posts look decent enough to be interesting yet easy enough to pull off.

6. NextGen Gallery

Sybil turned me onto this one too. Keeps your pictures well organized which is pretty helpful.

7. Dual Feeds

WordPress has a huge bug in regards to the template style I am using. The more tag mangles the Full RSS feed that people subscribe to. This plugin takes that pain away, gives you complete control and makes my front page happy. Get it today make your front page happy too.

8. Viper’s Video Quicktags

We like Youtube but WordPress hates Youtube natively. With this plugin they get along just fine.

9. AJAX Edit Comments

My users like editing their comments because they are writers and editors. Why would I not provide this?

10. WordPress Mobile Edition

More and more people are using their mobile gadgets while using the web and it is good to be ready for them too.

How do you use Automatic Upgrade? I’ve got the plugin installed and activated but now what do I do?

Go to your admin page. Manage tab and then the Automatic Upgrade tab under that. It will step you through… please read carefully!
