The Other Boleyn Girl

February 3, 2008

There is something just not right about making King Henry VIII sexy.

I am not saying he might not have seemed sexy in his day, and Eric Bana is working the manly bearded sexy in this movie like nobodies business, but we all know what a barrel of laughs the guy turned out to be for the various women in his life.

I am more of a Elizabeth I guy myself.

He was reckoned to be quite the hot guy as a young man. A lot of young women throwing themselves at him, and not *just* because of who he was. I think they may have been aiming to show why he was able to attract so many mistresses, given that we can only see him knowing what happened later.

Sold. That is one hot Henry VIII.

But Natalie Portman always looks like she could use a chocolate chip muffin. Or two.

Mine’s wrong. Most of the time. It’s my creative and often dyslexic typing.

It is hard to think of Henry VIII as super-sexy given what we know about how things turned out. And the portraits that were left behind of him - oy! But the movie can be as historically accurate as fuck-all so far as I’m concerned, I’m totally looking forward to seeing Erica Bana bring on the Tudor hotness.

The mid-life crisis portraits of Henry do not appeal in the slightest, quite apart from knowing what form his mid-life crisis took. But there are a couple of portraits of him as a young man, and while he’s not my thing, I can see from those why he was considered quite the hot bit of stuff in his day. Good-looking, athletic, sharp mind — and that’s before we get onto “second in line to the throne”.
