    With commentary. :-)

Damn it, Teddy, where were you when I was living in Mountain View and needed a shopping guide for trips up the peninsula?

The Eagle Tavern looks intriguing…wonder what the old man will think of that?

Teddy! You left out two of my favorite spots in SF, City Lights and Good Vibrations!

  5. Teddypig@teddypig.com on February 5th, 2008 11:51 am

OK, I put City Lights on there because we lost a couple of good independent bookstores this year actually.

BUT! Good Vibrations is a novelty shop next to Mrs S located in the same shop with Mr S.

Mrs S has quality sexy womens leather/latex clothes and shoes and all the evil evil toys and a full on Mens shop next door to gear your slave or Master appropriately. They do not compare.

Plus Good Vibrations has their novelty stores strewn everywhere, there is nothing unique or “have to see” about them.

I can find better stuff to look through at Rock Hard in the Castro which has a great movie and magazine selection.

I just added Stormy Leather the only Women’s Leather Shop I have ever been in. You want a to die for leather corset to wear with jeans you go to Stormy Leather.

  7. Darlene Marshall on February 5th, 2008 12:50 pm

Thanks for the Stormy Leather tip. Sounds like fun.

To hell with the little black dress I think any rockin’ chick needs a little simple but nicely designed black leather corset and a nice pair of black jeans and some spiky black leather heels. It says sexy with a really killer right punch. Add a nice Mrs S Black Leather Traditional biker jacket and you can take a ride on the Harley Boys with style.

All I know is that my SF partner gives evil chuckles when she suggests places for us to go eat when I show up. It may be because I once suggested that when she came to visit me — I’m right near THE most romantic U.S. city according to Amazon! — that chaps would not be considered typical public daytime attire.

It should be fun this year at RWA.

I like Good Vibrations. Not least because when I went in there looking for a massager because I really *did* want a battery-powered massager, they took me seriously and helped me find the right one. (I’d just done a trans-Atlantic flight with a pulled shoulder, and wasn’t doing the return leg without something to massage it.)

That’s why I go to Sharper Image. Their heated massager is the shit. Totally way too big, but it melts the knots away.

Honestly, Good Vibrations has done a great job selling to women, but unlike the Gay Shops who have never had to convince Gay Men to buy sexual doo-hickeys, the shops in the Castro get the better quality stuff meant to last and do the trick without extreme prices.

  12. Jules Jones on February 5th, 2008 3:26 pm

The heated ones are good, but I needed something small and battery-powered but still powerful enough to be used as a massager. It turned out to be useful for the RSI as well.

When I visit a friend in Bournemouth we occasionally hit the sex shops, which are all in one street. Of the three, the gay one is actually a lot more friendly to women than the one for straight men is. So much so that it got a name check in Dolphin Dreams (which is set in the area). :-)

Oh then, you better take a walk in the Castro it’ll be like a sexual supermarket. Hell, even A Different Light has some of the best, and might I add tastefully photographed, Beefcake DVDs and Calendars you can imagine

It’ll be a while before I do the Castro again. I’m back in the UK now…

    Fettered Pleasures ~ 90 Holloway Road, N7.

They carry most of Mr S’ stock in London.

  16. Angela James on February 5th, 2008 3:56 pm

Teddy, I’m going to be in SF early, are you going to take me on a tour of the gay bars? And I am so visiting Stormy Leathers.

Sure thing we can even hit the Straight Biker bar and I can take you to a small shop to purchase some Coffee Magic for waking up San Francisco style coffee the next morning.

I added a German restaurant I love and my fav Mexican place and the Sees “Emergency Chocolate” Fix on Market. The place I go on Sunday morning to get over a hangover. Man, I had no idea I am so attached to certain places for certain occasions.

What about Ghirardelli Square? I loved that place the last time I was in San Fran :)

If all goes planned on my end, I will be there for RWA 2008.

Man, I wish I were going to RWA this year. But alas, the cost benefit doesn’t add up this year. *pouts*

    I really love Borderlands Books.
It’s only science fiction/fantasy/horror (and that’s more the boyfriend’s fav), but the people are helpful & I love the store.

And there’s a Good Vibes several blocks down. :-P

Got something to say?
