I was wandering around iTunes looking at eBook reader applications for the iPhone and BAM!
You remember that huge long ass post on how to read mobipocket eBooks on the Macintosh?
Well forget all that just download this Stanza for free and read away on your iMac. Yes, under OSX. Yes, it’s that friggin easy!
But wait there’s more…
Want to transform all formats of eBooks for your Kindle like PDF or Palm Doc or Microsoft Lit?
Want to read those previously unattainable formats on your iMac?
How about you want to then upload all these wonderful eBooks to your iPhone or Kindle.
Don’t you want to read those Palm Doc or Microsoft Lit eBooks on your iPhone or Kindle?
Oh yeah baby! This does it!
It ain’t perfect. Not in this world my friends. It will not hack DRMs for you. Go out and buy freaking Microsoft Lit DRM people and Convertlit at will.
But after you do all that.. this little gem makes it easy to get it all on your favorite eBook reader.
Psst! Stanza is also available for Windows. They are not snobs over there, no siree!
Hack the eBooks!

‘scuse me… Mr. Pig… Sir? I haz a probem, plz 2 help?
Thanks to your advice in an old post, I tried Convertlit. Well actually it was the Convertlit GUI http://dukelupus.pri.ee/ and it DID take a LIT ebook with DRM and convert it to HTML. Worked slicker ‘n shit. But the problem is that it put EACH CHAPTER out there as a SEPARATE HTML FILE in a folder along with separate files for the images.
So my question to you is, how do I get all those separate HTML chapter files back into one cohesive file before converting THAT file to PDF or whatever– whether through Stanza or something else? Or would i just have to live with converting DRMd LIT ebooks one chapter at a time?
I don’t have an ereader… YET (except my HP iPAQ PDA). But I’m experimenting NOW with what works best for conversions before making a decision on an ereader. I’m leaning toward either the new Sony or possibly the Astak.

OK download this and then open the html file and then tell Stanza what format you want.
I swear this is the Swiss Army Knife of eBook Apps.

Well, Piggie, my love— I need to lay a big ol’ wet snog on you!
First of all, I am teh stooopid! When using the ConvertLit GUI, there are multiple tabs– EXTRACT, DOWNCONVERT, INSCRIBE, SEARCH, OPTIONS. Well the first time I used the GUI, I used the EXTRACT tab, which is what created all those multiple HTML files.
What I tried last night was the DOWNCONVERT tab and WOOT! I gots me a duplicate LIT file BUT WITHOUT THE DRM!! So that means that ANYTHING that converts non-DRM LIT can now be used. Which means that there is definitely an eink ereader in my immediate future!! Which means I can get back to reading all those nummy ebooks I’ve been missing because my tired old eyes can’t handle my PDA anymore! WOOT! WOOT!

I downloaded it, thinking I was about to be in .lit heaven – but sadly there is something wrong with the latest release and it crashes on loading. No one there seems to be too interested in why :(

I sent in a crash report. Have to see what they say. It might be an incompatibility with my version of Java or something. Shame because I was dying to see if it worked.

It is free you know and should not hurt anything.

I ran Software Update and now it works. It might have been Java, or it might have been something else.
Sadly it didn’t open the one file I had to test it but I live in hope!

Stanza should be able to convert ePub files I don’t know how it will look once it does but this thing has been useful so far and mostly I read from iPhone.

I bought some DRM software from Mobipocket — and Stanza can’t open it. (Apparently, on Mobipocket you have to “register your device.” Butit doesn’t list the iPhone or Stanza!)
Thanks, Piggy. I’d really like to read this book.

Well I told you guys no DRM conversion on Stanza.
OK if you really want to walk on that wild side.
Google “mobipocket drm converter”
From what I read you need a Python Script and the software to run a Python Script.
Then you will have to find the PID of your mobipocket install etc etc etc and then strip the drm.
This is getting into lots of techy mish mash language and always always always be very afraid. Downloading programs from unknown sources to hack ebooks like this can lead to Trojans and Viruses and tons of computer horror stories.
You have been warned. Good Luck!

Yes, you can finally open Mobipocket format ebooks without DRM on Mac OSX. If you bought DRM Mobipocket no this will not work for that.

It means if you bought Mobipocket eBooks locked by the publisher then this program will not unlock those files even though it can read Mobipocket files.
You should just download it and try the program out since it is free it will either display your Mobipocket eBooks or they are probably locked.
