Cracked had a good article on these horror movies and for the ones I have seen and loved from the eighties…
OH YEAH I SO AGREE!
So maybe it is not my most adult moment as a gay man to be sitting and watching my beloved eighties flicks like The Lost Boys or Nightmare On Elm Street 2 or Top Gun for the zillionth time going… THIS IS SO FUCKING GAY! But I do and it is nice to know others do also.
Now I would argue for the movie to be not only homoerotic in subtext but also an 80s horror flick just adds so much flavor to the standard cheese topping. The movies from 2001 and later selected by the article writer for Cracked just hit me as more likely to be intentionally exploitive of the online m/m and slash fans than the 80s films are so I would say they strike me as a situation where it was done on purpose despite whatever the directors say.
What do you guys think?

I can totally see it for all but number 2. That one I don’t really get, but then I can barely remember the movie. I have all the others on the DVD. :D

I’ve got the same DVD’s on my shelf. They’re reserved for the Friday night horror movies with wine and chocolate my buds and I sometimes have. I don’t think ‘The Covenant’ was unintentionally homoerotic, though. Do you?
And ‘Lost Boys’ deserves its very own cult classic category. All those pretty wicked vampires and their funky lair. polyamorerotic? The scene when they’re hanging from the railroad ties? To DIE for.

The only one I’ve actually seen is The Lost Boys, which was worth putting up with a whole movie full of The Coreys just for the last line alone *g* But now I want to see The Covenant. I mean come on! College boys showering??? TOGETHER, yet???? Yes, please. I don’t really need any other reasons.

The Covenant’s one of my favorite slashable movies. A magical gang of pretty college boys…mmmmmm. Ally, it’s a YA movie (similar to Blood and Chocolate in style), so watch it with your girl child and bond over the pretties. :D
The Lost Boys was just so BAD. So was the sequel (which had an even gayer vibe ’cause of all the metrosexual and pseudo-goth boys). Haven’t seen the others since I don’t really watch horror.

Yeah, I might be able to lure the girl-child into watching that one, since there are pretties :) She is leery of horror ever since The Ring. I think that one scarred her for life, poor thing. Me, I adore a good horror movie. Which it looks like none of these are.
OTOH, there is something to be said for unintentional funnies, which of course is why I love MST3K so much LOL

I don’t classify Covenant as a horror movie, any more than Twilight or Blood & Chocolate are horror movies. It has some awesome teen cheesiness. It’s also one of my husband’s favorite movies, for which he is teased frequently.

The Ring was such a great twist on the urban myth. Loved it!

I recently saw Lost Boys again, after watching it to death as a teen. It was still lovely. Love horror movies!

Heh, I’ve seen all of them. I can’t agree with Covenant, but that’s probably because the movie is so bad, I can’t see any camp value in it. But Forsaken is definitely homoerotic – the ending, in fact, is deliciously so.

Ever seen any of David DeCoteau’s homoerotic horror epics? I recommend The Brotherhood and Voodoo Academy. Lots of pretty boys running around in their boxers, with the faintest whisper of a plot.
