It is sad but I am beginning to agree with critics. Obama signing some half-hearted memorandum guaranteeing a few insignificant health type benefits that for the most part they were already receiving just does not cut it for me. Hell, I have more full health benefits as a gay man working for my extremely conservative private employer than these federal workers are getting for their families.
That is just fucked up and sad. Since I have always thought federal employees should be the first who should be guaranteed their civil rights in the work place. It is not like the pay is all that great for the typical peon pencil pusher there.
Oh well, I have seen this type of behavior before with his weak attempt to support “no on Prop 8″ that he sorta mumbled something about while he groveled for our votes. It’s not like I am expecting much more since he cannot even seem to find the time to backup his promises about getting rid of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” and it’s not like I will ever vote republican. *sigh* Yeah, you’re too busy I guess. Sure.

I’m a bit disappointed too, but the guy has done more in his first few months in office than any other president in recent memory. He’s trying to make the economy better for EVERYONE. He’s trying to get healthcare for EVERYONE. He’s got a million small special interest groups wanting him to do stuff for them, then slamming him when he doesn’t try to push legislation through from them immediately. The dude has been in office for less than 5 months and the country was collapsing. What the fuck do you want him to do? He’s very rightly focusing on the immediate issues that affect the country as a whole, rather than what the gay people want him to do, or the hispanic people want him to do, or what the black people want, or the teachers want, or the auto workers want.
Everything he needs to do is important, and he can’t do everything for everyone at once. And it’s not a one man deal in DC. New laws have to go through Congress, who are generally against any gay rights. Cut the guy some slack. If I were given the mess he inherited, gay marriage wouldn’t be at the top of my agenda either, and it’s a subject that’s near and dear to my heart.

Emmy,
I can agree on some things you say, as I said he keeps saying he is busy I am not arguing that fact. But I don’t see having a consistent view on civil rights as pandering to a special interest. Honestly, I have not heard that from him at all lately as much as I did when he was seeking our vote.

I hear you man; I’ve got family employed there, too.
I’ll probably get flayed alive by the man-eating kaddydids over in Somerville County for speaking my piece, cough, cough, but I think Obama’s basic problem is he’s TOO freaking nice and naive. Only a hopelessly naive nice guy inherits a problem and multiples it by the trillions in the quest to make everybody happy. God knows I can’t please everyone in six months, the best I can hope for is secure my home, protect those important to me and deal with one problem at a time. It’d be nice to see some balls among his many czars. With his generous heart and some backbone among his administration they might just turn things around for the better.Hell, he could start by replacing his present nomination for the Supreme Court with Judith Sheindlin. That woman’s fair, she’s tough, and not hard on the eyes either for her age, lol. Anyway, that’s my two-cents for what its worth.
You have a good evening, my friend!
