WTF?
For a variety of reasons large and small, Quartet Press has decided to discontinue operations. Sometimes, even with the best of intentions, a hard-working team, and the support of the community, things just don’t work out. This is one of those times.
Update: Publishers Weekly
In a phone interview with Meyer, she said that ongoing discussions with a number of digital vendors made it clear that their financial projections would not work. And while they could have restructured the venture, she said, “we didn’t want to compromise and lower the quality.
Update: Angela James Stays Classy Even In Milk
Publishing is a business, and like any other business, the chances we take and the choices we make aren’t always going to work out how we planned. Though I didn’t leap into the decision to join Quartet, and spent weeks negotiating with them, agonizing over my decision, long conversations with my husband, and working out contract details, it only shows that even the most carefully thought out decisions and plans can still crumble. It happens.
First question that comes to my mind… Does this mean Angela James is up for grabs?
Now I admit even with this update I am still clueless here… How does every other ePub in existence handle distribution to digital vendors without “lowering the quality” then? I mean, they say in the article they were not even considering POD so um yeah…

That was actually my first question… All the hubbub with this publisher, it’s a bit weird.

katie,
*sigh* You know I don’t Twitter, for my sake and the sake of many many others out there.
It’s one of those things where my husband would tell you… I am a bitch that can spin a poor unaware victim who crosses me faster than a fun park ride run by a meth addict.
He has witnessed me do it on purpose knowing full well everything I did and said was meant to inflict intense pain on some idiot who decided to include us in a traffic accident on the Bay Bridge of all places.
That is just everyday “me” in person… You want “me” on Twitter? Oh hell no.

I just want to know: how long before Ravenous Romance buys the Quartet Press domain and directs it to their website?
Just kidding, people!

My reaction to the Quartet Press announcement was the same as yours: WTF? Who knows what really went down. Someone definitely fucked up on the math. It is such a shame to see yet another epublishing disaster story. I would love to go digital but stuff like this puts me right off.
It would be great to see you on Twitter! It’s fun but definitely a potential time waster.

The problem is guys Twitter is all about social networking.
I am a geek and an extreme nerd and probably not a great conversationalist. I am the guy at the party who is out back smoking a cigarette talking to the same group of people he buys drinks with at the bar and sees every day.
I suck at the social skills and I don’t even think I am a great reviewer or blogger. I have like three reviews I have been working on forever right now and hell, I barely make it over to LBea’s blog to comment and be nice and give back to those who comment to me all the time.
Twitter seems like it would just be one more thing I am not inherently good at.

Three things:
1) I have no clue what happened at QP, no idea what MIGHT have happened as business is so NOT something I’m good at, but I feel bad for Angie and I feel good for whatever lucky, lucky pub wins the inevitable cage fight for her hand in employment.
2) Twitter, as I’ve said before, is Pure Evil in sweet little bite sized pieces. Nom.
3) OMG HAPPY BIRTHDAY EARLY TPIG!!!

Happy Birthday, Mr. Pig. I even wrote on my calendar (right under Call the Bank) Teddypig’s Birthday so I’d remember. I don’t do that for just anyone. Have a wonderful day and year.

HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY! You should just do what I do–make the entire month your birthmonth and celebrate it ;-). It’s more fun! I’m still celebrating my birthmonth.
