For those of you not keeping track Sony just dropped the price of the PS3 to $300.00 by introducing the new Slim Version here and walloped XBox 360 and Nintendo Wii at their own game in only a month. This is a nicer, more practical PS3. A more energy efficient chip makes for a quieter machine and then they threw in 120 Gigs of disk space to sweeten the deal. These new machines still do not play PS2 games anymore… yeah the old PS3 60 Gigs version used to have that hardware feature and YES I AM STILL BITTER ABOUT THAT.
See unlike the Nintendo Wii or the XBox 360 you can say Sony is selling you a $150.00 Blu Ray DVD player and also a $150.00 video game system at the same time. Unlike the Nintendo Wii it is not totally kiddie games oriented and is high definition like your TV (In fact I rent Blu Ray movies from the built in PS3 Sony Store all the time for $5.00 to make sure they are worth buying even though it takes forever to download them.) and unlike the Microsoft XBox 360 it does not have Gamestop and Best Buy reporting a unit failure rate of between 30% and 33% with crappy customer service as an added Microsoft feature.
Which is the main reason I still do not have a XBox 360. I am no fool and I hate waiting in line to return junk.
At $300.00 the Sony PlayStation 3 is just $50.00 more than the wimpy Nintendo Wii and is the most powerful home entertainment system on the market. Go for it!
End note: With anything extremely complicated electronic wise and not cheap like video game machines or like a TV or a computer I say buy that Best Buy extended warranty because I have been seriously happy dancing ecstatic I did just that when I had troubles with my old PS3 and they will hand you a new one off the floor no questions asked even at the tail end of the warranty. Sometimes those extended warranties are not a rip offs and in this case they offer “peace of mind” for me at least. You don’t always know what generation the unit is or what manufacture parts were used so take a hint.

Damn, man…I was just looking at this on Amazon today and debating whether I should snatch it up now before things get crazy during the holidays. One question: will this play the old PS2 Devil May Cry games or am I screwed over on that front? :P

Will not play a single PS2 game. Sony decided not to support backwards compatibility. Look how long it took them to make it affordable. No matter how nifty the thing is Sony always manages to muck something up.
