Wow, very interesting study. It certainly contradicts a lot of the studies the "family values" people always bring up when talking about gay parents and single mothers.

I can see how many lesbians would especially teach their girl children that they could be independent, use all their abilities, and aspire to any kind of job. That kind of encouragement has got to help.

I have no particular devotion to "women's culture," and am generally accused (accurately enough) of focusing a fair amount of my energy on men, one way or another. Nevertheless, I believe that most lesbians are probably pretty good parents.

I don't personally think it has anything to do with Lesbians or Gays in particular. It's simply about having to make the effort to have the kids and as such honestly wanting them and not being some type of successful heterosexual marriage checklist requirement or some sad mistake you made having sex when you were too young to understand the responsibilities.

I don't know that having to make active decisions about a child guarantees the couple (of any persuasion) to be better parents, but at the same time, I think it could be correct in that the parents are prepared to cope a hell of a lot better.

Gives interesting thought to the whole dynamic of matriarchal societal structures, and also to some of those 'out there' scifi stories of women who only keep men for sperm slaves.
