Spencer Johnson M.D. ~ Who Moved My Cheese?

Spencer Johnson M.D. ~ Who Moved My Cheese?
From: Penguin Putnam

This came up in the comments with LBea about that Waterstone’s article so I will let you in on the game…

I myself think this parable is a bit too simplistic especially when dealing with your typical workplace intelligence if it is used by brain dead bean counters to justify their particular corporate change no matter how detrimental to the business or the customers it is. So blah blah blah *typical do not take anything to extremes warning* followed by and remember kids “simple tools” get abused by “simple fools”.

If you look at what the author is saying I think it does speak to certain things going on today concerning publishing and the market place.

Back in my corporate days, the boss had our entire office read Who Moved My Cheese? A handful of us were inspired to quit our jobs within the year. The book inspired us to find our cheese elsewhere.

  2. TeddyPig wrote,

In some cases taking your cheese and going home might be the better option than to continue playing. They seem to forget that part, the idiots.

G swears by it–and his company turned a tidy profit this year, we hired instead of fired, we still offer benefits, still reimburse for education, and we match our employees 401K. You know, instead of sinking into the mire of economic downturn.

I guess it’s what you make of it.

    Still funny, though

Well LBea, like in most good business tools you have to start with the premise the people in question are not already off on their own ego trip. Unlike many I have met. Banking, government, research you name it I have experienced the “no win” business strategy it’s a specialty of mine.

I’ve never read Who Moved My Cheese. :(

  6. AnneD wrote,

Me two, Katiebabs, I have asked copious times ‘who cut the cheese’ but I have a feeling that’s not quite where we’re going here

    @AnneD

    I lol’d. I did.

  8. Ally Blue wrote,

I’ve read that book. Was interesting. And blessedly short, LOL. But, yeah, it takes on whole new shades of meaning depending on who Da Boss is *g*

  9. Emilie wrote,

I thought the book was fairly cynical, and condescending to employees. I knew people who really believed in the corporate structure who thought the book was wonderful. I’m sure many of them have done very well for themselves. I enjoy the assorted work with books and archives that I do — you meet the most interesting people that way, even if you don’t necessarily meet them face-to-face. Each to his/her own.
