Unless traditional publishing can get past simply selling “text files” online with DRM as being enough to command top dollar they are doomed when their products get compared to complete publishing services like this. Is anyone noticing the eBook game is quickly changing on iTunes with the Smart Tablet so close at hand?
It will not be so hard to offer this same fare on Android and then you have two publishing platforms to contend with that you have no branding or presence on. Can you really compete with something like this by simply selling “text files” with DRM? Great, Barnes & Noble finally gets all their eBook files in ePub format only to find out ePub was yesterday’s news.
They moved the cheese!

I’ve been told people were doing similar things 5-10 year ago to provide multimedia eBooks. So it’s not all flash and new. Although, I’m guessing production standards might well be quite different when you have $$$ to throw at it.

The ideas were there but the technology and delivery platforms were not there. Now because of Apple and Google it is, and that is why all this is happening and happening so fast. The people who knew they wanted this now have the tools to make it happen and deliver it quickly to the customers out there and the people who did not anticipate this technology and the rapid change it would bring will get left behind.
