After doing my Five Faves for Jessewave I decided to ask some of the best writers out there in Gay Romance land to pick five. I asked these authors what five books got them started writing OR were their absolute favorite reads when they started out and then I asked them what their favorite book was that THEY had written and WHY. So here is my good friend Treva Harte who even though is busier than most running Loose Id and all has graciously contributed her five. WOohOo!
Treva Harte ~ The Wildling
From: Loose Id
I probably should say Leftovers, since that’s my first novella length story with two males or The Deviants, because that series set me on a GBLT path in a perverse and roundabout way. (No jokes there, people.) But I love The Wildling because after a period of not enjoying my writing the way I had when I wrote The Deviants, this story made me laugh while I wrote.
My five favorites are more idiosyncratic than most, I think. There are other stories I also like very much, but these are ones that were milestones for me on my journey into GBLT fiction. And yeah, it hasn’t been all that long a trip.
1. Jules Jones ~ The Syndicate Our very first Loose Id story featuring two males in the romance—well, sort of a romance. It was different, it was funny, it started us off. Thanks to Raven McKnight for finding it for us. ***Teddypig ~ Links go to Jules Jones website where The Syndicate is a free download***
2. Stephanie Vaughn ~ Crossing The Line If not our second author with GBLT stories, she was pretty close. I remember her as being the second anyhow. I always enjoyed Stephanie Vaughan’s characters. They seemed so real and, just like real characters, they did not conform to romance rules.
3. A.M. Riley ~ What To Buy For The Vamp Who Has Everything I had the honor of editing this one, which made me very happy. I believe it was the first M/M or gay romance I ever did edit.
4. A.M. Riley ~ Amor En Retrogrado I love the characters in What to Buy the Vamp…, but I was anxious to edit that story because I really love this story. Dark, deep characterization. I loved the flawed protagonists.
5. Bobby Michaels ~ Jock Dorm 1: Dar and Gregg Once again, I got to edit Bobby later but I loved this first Loose Id story of his because from the first page I could hear the author’s voice clear as a bell. The characters and the author are guys who love guys and you can tell it immediately…but they have a lot of appeal for female readers.

Jock Dorm–lots of discussion on that one, for sure. I agree his voice comes shining through.
Great list Treva!

Wonderful selections. Jack Dorm – one of my favourite series and I can’t wait for Bobby to release JD 3 Bobby and Connor. Of the others – I loved both books by A.M. Riley and laughed my ass off with What to Buy for the Vamp who has Everything. I also loved Immortality Is The Suck and The Elegant Corpse by the same author. I guess I’ll be checking out the free download of The Syndicate. :)
I’m afraid I haven’t read The Wildling or Crossing The Line as yet.

Put my character down, woman, you’ll get him all mussed up.
Given the conversation elsewhere this week about what makes for a romance, I should point out that the initial story arc for The Syndicate was split into two volumes by the original publisher ( a now-vanished micropress), and Loose Id retained that split to avoid confusion. Thus you do need to read the full story across volumes 1 and 2 to get to the “will you marry me?” scene and a clear HEA ending.
It’s also a joint author series, and rather different in tone to my later solo books for LI. For one thing, romantic comedy isn’t usually *quite* so blatantly slapstick…

This is the only five faves list where I’ve read all the books. Good books–loved Amor en Retrogado.
Thanks for sharing, Treva!

Once again, I have Lisabea to thank for pointing out that The Syndicate was up on Jules Jones’ website right before the holidays last year. It gave me quite a few hours of entertainment and got me to read several other of Ms. Jones’ books. I’ve gotten so many good recommendations from Lisabea of books and authors to check out.

What is funny is I read Bobby before Loose Id. I love those Nifty Erotic stories and I mentioned something to Treva only to find out that Bobby was already on Loose Id.
