The Slow Cooker for this one…
1 Pound Bag Split Peas rinsed and placed in the bottom of the Slow Cooker.
1 12 Oz package of Salt Pork sliced and layered on top. Have to have the pig you know.
1 Bag Baby Carrots sliced up and layered on top. Baby Carrots, get it?
1 Sweet Onion peeled and sliced up and layered on top.
3 Ribs of celery sliced and layered on top.
2 Heaping Spoonfuls of minced garlic layered on top.
1 or 2 Bay Leafs
Salt and Pepper. Lots of Pepper… For he can then thoroughly enjoy the pepper when he pleases!
1 32 Oz Box of Chicken Broth. The pig split because he was chicken.
Leave it on LOW with no stirring for 8 hours.

This sounds delicious, but I didn’t know it was still possible to buy salt pork. I’ve never seen it at my local grocery store.

Ham or uncured Bacon can work just as well. You tend to find all this stuff in the same place at the market.

P.S. LOVE the Duchess illustration! It’s one of my favorites, from one of my favorite scenes in AAiW!
