Grow your library.
You’ll find lots of books on the iBookstore, and more arrive every day. The iBooks app uses the ePub format — the most popular open book format in the world. That makes it easy for publishers to create iBooks versions of your favorite reads. And you can add free ePub titles to iTunes and sync them to the iBooks app on your iPad.
I think they mean DRM free there. So we have all known for a while you could use iTunes to organize your eBook collection but I expect with an update of iTunes you will be able to synch a collection of Non-DRM ePub formated eBooks onto the iPad. Yes! Time for me to switch to ePub I guess. I love my PDF format though. *sigh* I’ll get over it.

I don’t get this ePub format thing. I downloaded a book in the ePub format and it opened in Adobe Digital Editions, which I freaking hate. Are they the same thing? I thought they are different.

ePub is just another container like PDF but yeah Adobe Reader if you have it installed will open for it. Which is not really a problem unless it is DRM and you have to login then there is no way out of using Adobe.
BUT if you don’t want to use Adobe use Stanza Desktop app… search for it in the blog here. I have a linky somewhere.
Stanza can open non-DRM ePub no problem.
