From: Apple Insider ~ Apple Sells 2 Million iPads In Under 2 Months
The company initially sold 500,000 iPad’s during the device’s first week on the market. That number doubled three weeks later when Apple announced on May 3rd that it had shipped its millionth unit.
On average, Apple would appear to be selling just over 35,700 iPads each day and the company boasts a catalog of over 5,000 new applications for the touch-screen device that have been authored by its developer community.
Apple also said Monday that the iPad will be available in nine more countries in July and additional countries later this year.
So maybe this will finally answer Teleread’s question….

That must be 2 million in pure hype right there.
Now what was the total Amazon Kindle sales figures again? 3 Million as of Dec 2009 supposedly and they introduced it in Nov 2007. Another person said it was more likely 1.5 Million that actually got sold though.
Either way Apple is going to surpass Amazon’s whole three years worth of Kindle sales in less than a few months. I hope I get hype like that some time seems worth it to me.
