From: Victoria Brownworth ~ Real Authentic Gay Male Porn Writer Extraordinaire
First of all, Lambda Literary is an LGBT literary magazine. We’ve been around now for several decades. We aren’t just some fly-by-night fan fic site or someone’s livejournal blog.
I love this shit. If you cannot back your craptastic article up with supporting documentation and like real facts start publicly attacking and name calling a well known online promoter who supports Gay Male Authors.
Oh, and make sure we all know you speak for Lambda Literary and the Gay Male Literary Community as a whole so we know how much reverence to give your nut job analysis.
I can tell Lambda Literary is going to have a fun time fixing this mess. Dig that hole deeper!

Your post made me laugh… when I desperately needed it.
I did some checking… according to their website, they’ve been around since 1987. What am I missing that they’ve been around for several decades?

Maybe she researched that like she did her post.

Apparently I’m living in a bubble:
“A livejournal blog is NOT a respected literary magazine. sorry to burst your bubble on that one–not mine, not yours, not anyone’s. that’s personal musings. period.”
and I have limited horizons:
“If you are counting 1,553 m/m novels that you have read (which would mean you are reading several a day since this hasn’t even been a genre for very long), i suggest you branch out into real fiction. it might broaden your perspective on actual gay people.”
After my personal rant, I’m still laughing on that.

Oh I forgot, do you like that part: “this (Gay Romance) hasn’t even been a genre for very long”?
Poor Gordon Merrick maybe didn’t know it…

You know it’s weird… as I recall I had the first m/m (yaoi) book published by an ebook publisher way back in 2004 and I don’t see anyone attacking me. I told my publisher at the time that m/m was going to be the next big trend–I wrote fanfic too back then–so I saw the potential and my editor at the time convinced the publisher.
If they want to blame anyone for the popularity of m/m they should be blaming me.

No it’s all my fault for “embracing our oppressors”.

p.s. “appropriately gay(TM)” not to be confused with “appropriation gay(EBIL)”.

Come and see the violence inherent in the system. Help! Help! I’m being repressed!

You are busy, TeddyPig, what with embracing the oppressors and being inappropriately gay. Before they closed down the comments section of that article, they asked Steve Berman to give his take, and I thought it was pretty good. I didn’t agree with it all, but I felt it was fairly balanced, and that he made some good points.

Harvey Milk did not do what he did to play it safe or because he felt hiding out in a Gay Ghetto was going to get us anywhere.
I refuse to believe that calls for segregation and nut jobs running around name calling is the answer to any issues we might have as a community. Although when they fall on their face it can be entertaining.
