Claire Thompson ~ Sub For Hire

LBea & My Review of Claire Thompson ~ Sub For Hire

Just when you think you got it down
Resistance nowhere to be found
They whisper
Promises in the dark
Pat Benatar ~ Promises In The Dark

You might remember a long time ago LBea and I did a review of Sub For Hire and I recently added it to my collection of reviews on Goodreads where I summarized my feelings about it still…

Give me Sam!

Give me BAD MASTER!

See I did that post on BDSM Leather protocol to share some of the “in context” reasoning around “the rules” so to speak but just because you have an understanding of the HOW does not mean you understand the WHY.

Which is exactly the trap I see Claire Thompson and many “Dark” Slave Fic writers like Rachel Haimowitz ~ Anchored: Belonging getting caught in. They stand outside and look in and they either see goody two shoes “rule thumpers” sharing the spirituality of BDSM or they seem to see only brutality and abuse as a sexual turn on.

Sure, as a bottom I have been whipped and I have been in shackles and I have hung from walls and I have provided blow jobs in a dark corner in the back of the bar on my knees. I have learned Leather Protocol and worn a collar and been in service to a Master and I enjoyed every freaky minute of it.

I did it all though because of the allure of the dark and the love of the Bad Boy. John taught me all the rules I know but that does not mean we sat around negotiating every BDSM scene in some dry accounting lingo or going through some stupid question and answer session every time he wanted to try something new.

Frankly John was a Bad Boy and just fucking did it. Yeah we had gotten to know each other but that was the whole point of doing all that “getting to know each other”. Bad Boys are not serial killers or rapists in disguise they are dominant demanding Doms whom you let get their way every time and they know it. BDSM is an interaction not a solo performance. You have to actually like, maybe even love, the type of people you find on the other end of the whip.

What makes a good BDSM scene turn into something great you remember for a long time is not the moments that are well within your set of predetermined and predefined limits. It’s when your Top convinces you to step beyond what you believed were your limits. Like what Sam did.

The Top is the Bad Boy, the brush he uses is the BDSM scene, and the art of it is all those forbidden things that lure you and entice you to want to be as naughty as you want to be while not getting too beat up. So that is why I wanted Sam the villain and that is why I found reading about some “supposed” slave, who knew nothing about confinement or it seemed anything else about slavery, getting constantly brutalized as being tedious and boring.

None of the trappings of BDSM these books chose to focus on were ever a turn on for me or why I am into BDSM. I did not do these things to “learn the rule book” or “play it safe” or to “meet Mr. Perfect” or get my ass kicked by some overly aggressive hoods with anger management problems.

I enjoy these things because they are risky, but I take “known risks”, and I like being naughty and I love Bad Boys who appreciate what I offer. As I was telling someone just recently I might like to be “in service to a Master” but that does not mean I am not also intelligent and fully capable of turning tables and being just as Bad if someone does me wrong. Teddypig hint, never let a submissive use a whip on you because they know from experience where it really hurts.

A gift of service provided from strength is still one of great value.

That was what I was thinking about today…

I value hearing the knowledge from someone who actually knows what he’s talking about on these topics. Thanks, TeddyPig.

I was writing a review of Bound and Determined and was rereading parts of Joey W. Hill ~ Natural Law and thinking about all the “BDSM Romance” books I had read this week and figured I needed to post what was going on in my head.
