In a comment made on the this announcement the following pretty much sums up my feelings here…
Seriously this is sad, but SOMA had it’s soul and grit ripped out in the early part of the last decade when the police and ABC cracked down on things like blow jobs in the bars. The Old Hole in the Wall went from popular hang out to ghost town almost overnight, My Place, the sleaziest bar I’ve ever been in stopped having any appeal and was forced to close after constant Police harassment, and the Eagle beer bust became just that much less interesting. If you went any time other than Sunday it was maybe a dozen or so guys, and very boring. It was inevitable. Fucking condos.
If you had asked me two days ago how the police and city officials could rip the heart out of what we call the S.F Gay Community I first would have asked you if it had not already been done and if you had checked to see if you were double parked on Market, Castro, or Folsom since they do not allow you to spend that type of time it takes to get a Venti and order take out then I would have told you to target the Gay Bookstore on Castro and the S.F. Eagle Tavern which are businesses which could be bought and sold.
So the inevitable has happened and will there be any protest from the self righteous Gay Investment Banker Community of founding fathers and mothers who provide all the necessary banners and beer mug licenses over all this? No because they all left the gayborhood like I did. Are you high Louise? The only ones worth anything or had any vision all died of AIDS back in the eighties.
Buh Bye! We found other places to play and live when they shut down our party first the Mission District and then West Oakland. Mr. Jason and I met getting drunk on cheap beer in the corner of My Place the sleaziest bar in San Francisco which should just prove I was not only a regular but I actually remembered to bring my pants home with me along with my future husband that is.
This just confirms Elvis has left the building. No more tacky Folsom Street porn movies boo hoo and no more fake Castro Street fair pride rally stupidity “like anything really happened after Milk ate the bullet” and you fucked up straight hipsters and yuppies can parade your kids and strollers down the entire venue since you now own the whole fucking gayborhood you fucking leaches. All gone now!
