Portal 2

Portal 2

We picked this game up on Thursday and can you believe Jason already made it through? Although I am so sure that we missed tons of secret areas and we only got like 1/3 the possible achievement awards so this is a big game but you can rush through on a weekend pretty quickly by not exploring the nooks and crannies too much.

The best thing about both Portal games is you can pick it up and put it down as much as you want. You do not have to keep track of any stats or collect anything and until you get to the final battle there is no real timers so you can take as long as you like on almost any test area and it won’t hurt the game play at all.

What I am so happy to report is Portal 2 is ten times LESS frustrating than some of the minor annoyances you probably found in Portal 1. There is way less millimeter width accuracy required. Just find the surface and plop a portal on it and if it is the right one away you go. Which means they spent more time hiding the surfaces you are supposed to put those portals on by the way so um there is that annoyance but it is not anywhere near as bad as having to be spot on with the portal placement every time. I tried quickly to play the first game and was immediately reminded of this small targeting issue so the change is really that noticeable and that nice.

I also liked that there was far more storyline in this game. It had an actual flow to it and reasons to be going from “point A” to “point B” and there was even a back story you could uncover which Jason and I saw parts of but probably not the whole thing. Portal 2 is just plain polished to a high gloss all the way around and it is still staying very much in the kid friendly zone.

So despite how cheap you can still download the original I say Portal 2 is frankly worth the extra bucks with all it’s additional story line and perfections of game play. I know I had fun watching Jason have a good time playing the dang thing this weekend.

I can’t think of any other puzzle game out there I could say that about.

We totally love this game, having never played Portal 1. But expect an email from my 11 year old asking Jason how the hell he got through it.
