1965 Unforgettable Beauty Dust

Avon 1965 Unforgettable Beauty Dust

Quick question… I ran across this on the internet and BAM! I know exactly what this smells like! In fact I used to think all body powder smelled like this for a long time till I used Johnson & Johnson baby powder for a heat rash or something and it was different.

In fact not only did my mother have this but my dad’s mom had this and I think a few of my aunts.

My question is did everyone’s female relatives use this stuff?

I just seem to remember for a while walking into people’s bathrooms and always seeing one of these near the sink like a signal that was the nice guest bathroom or something. Now I never see them anymore but it’s like one of those things that is etched in my brain from childhood for some strange reason. Did Avon have like this huge sale back in 65 or something?

The jar doesn’t look familiar–I couldn’t have told you it was Avon or what–but at first glance I knew what it smelled like. Violets, and other stuff. Then again, I might be smelling whatever the container was recycled to hold.

I remember it was more rose-woody-musk smell that kinda worked for powder but… ok I am not an expert and it was a long time ago but maybe like mixing Chanel No5 with some classic rose perfume or something like that.

Avon must have kept it in their product range for a while as mum said she bought it when we were living in Fiji – sometime between 1968 and 1973. It was one of her favourite Avon products, along with a creme perfume in a ceramic dark blue pot with a lid that had a white embossed image that was similar to a cameo

Wow. Sense memory. My grandma had/used this. I always wanted the container for my bathroom, I thought it was a sign of being “grown up.”

OOT (out of topic): since I know you follow this “evolution” of gay romance, did you hear about what happened to Damon Suede: http://elisa-rolle.livejournal.com/1332292.html (don’t worry, it’s good news)
