From: TUAW ~ Kindle ebooks: How to buy and install them now that the store is gone

a couple of mainstream websites have whined that it’s “too hard to buy ebooks on your iPad now.”

If people need to be shown how to get on the internet and have someone hold their hand to go to the Amazon website on their iPad or iPhone I think we should simply not say anything. Just smile as they bitterly carry on about having to find out where the web browser is and how to use it.

I strongly suspect these are the same folks who keep buying those Sarah Palin books and Snooki biographies. STOP! Do not show them a damn thing! Do not teach them how to access the internet on their iPad. I am not sure how they even found your website to begin with but stop the problem there do not spread them around for all of us to suffer.

Honestly, these are the last people we want reading or buying anything ever again and we should use this as a test of their reasoning level like if they should be allowed to procreate or live in unsupervised housing. I say let them remain as they are living in their mom’s basement eating Cheetos and wondering what that compass button thingy does and where the internets are.

Sure, what I am suggesting is close to letting them wander into oncoming traffic but hey… it’s relatively painless and less annoying for those of us who think iPads and internet access are pretty damn nifty. So quit enabling the mindless masses to ruin our hideout here on the internets. Save the internets for functional thinking people who read things like manuals and FAQs and stuff like that.

Let “those people” stay on their Kindles and eInk devices with you know all that DRM and over priced eBooks while we enjoy our freedom to buy and read any format of eBook we want. But… Remember you have to know what a web browser is and how to click a download link which is way too hard for most folks to understand. *snicker wink*

But…but…isn’t part of the point of having an iPad or iPhone being able to browse the web? My brother downloads books onto his iPhone and reads them. I think he gets a lot of free books from Project Gutenberg.

I ordered print books from Amazon just fine before I discovered e-books. I just marked advanced search on Amazon as a favorite, found my books and got them. I have an account, I click a few times, and voila, books come to me.

Teddypig, am I wrong for thinking it must be simple?

I guess not Emilie… I usually am online when I spot a book I want so I just go over to Amazon and click the button like normal folks have been doing for years now and I only get on my iPad and open the Kindle App after I have done all that shopping already so the eBook basically suddenly appears like magic.

These folks are just carrying on like the ONLY way they ever shop on Amazon is by using that stupid button in the Kindle App like Amazon is some magic place that they could only get to through some wardrobe in an unused bedroom and they are being evicted by Apple.

Some people probably need to put the iPad down and step away from the device because it’s obviously way beyond their ability to comprehend or something.

Here’s what my brother J. had to say:

“Like everything else on the internets there are a number of ways to look for free and $$$ e-books. Initially I was using a program called Stanza. I downloaded it on my phone although it can also be put on your computer too so you can read on phone, pad, or desktop. It had links to both free places (like Gutenberg) and pay sites. Apple launched iBooks in conjunction with the iPad and they sell all manner of books there. I downloaded it but rarely use phone for books anymore.”
