The men working on the trail are fit and slim. Each was shirtless and tanned, dressed in dusty boots, work pants, and dandelion-yellow construction helmets.
I think the use of the term “dandelion-yellow” shows the reporter was fatigued from hiking all that way to do his story which is why he also needed a cold shower.
