From: The Telegraph UK ~ Ways With Words: Penelope Lively kindles publishing row with ‘e-books for bloodless nerds

According to Penelope Lively, 78, the Booker Prize-winning author, e-books are for “bloodless nerds”. She said that Kindles and other devices to which you can download novels are no substitute for real books and no self-respecting bibliophile should want one.

And get off my lawn! Nurse… Nurse… Where’s my meds! Where am I? I am so confused. I used to be pretty when I was younger.

What is funny is I knew people who had invested heavily in vinyl albums who said the same things about people who bought those new fangled compact discs way back when and it was good for a laugh then too. It takes a special kind of crazy you know.

And here I was, bloodless nerd that I apparently am, thinking it was the content that was important, not the medium. Good thing I have a Luddite like her to set me straight.

Hubs had the vinyl. And then finally the discs. He laughed at me when I got him his first iPod for Christmas in 2001(?) and said, “I’ll never use this.” Now, he won’t leave home without it.

I read more books (and of greater variety) now with my iPad then I ever did before with paper books. Here’s to bloodless nerds!

Thanks for making me laugh Mr. TPig!

Wow. That seems like such a dated attitude. I love my print books, but I love e-books too. There would be many more books overflowing my bookshelves and piled on the floor if I hadn’t found e-books. And the ones from e-publishers are usually cheaper or as cheap as a paperback. I’ve collected a number of free books from the out-of-copyright ones on Google eBooks, too. Those are pre-1923, so it’s not like all the books I have are that new-fangled, either.
