Amazon has finally done what they should have done all along. They created a web based Kindle application that is optimized for Google Android/Chrome and Apple Safari. So now instead of worrying about what Google who now is selling books or Apple who is also selling books do to curtail buying eBooks through competing apps running on their OS.
Amazon will be fully web browser compatible and fully outside either app stores or OS specs.
The point is all this crap about Apple “taking away” buy buttons was simply crap. If you do not want to “pay to play” on a competitors system then take it to the web which is exactly what this cloud based Kindle solution does. I hope other eBook retailers learn from this and follow.
This also makes clear that Amazon is throwing in with Android if they do sell a tablet. And no, eInk devices do not run things like Google Chrome or Apple Safari browsers so I don’t expect many conversations in the future focusing on them anymore.
This is the age of the tablet and the cloud and HTML5 not throw back screen technologies being sold for way too much money. As of right now the best and most adaptable eBook Reader is either a 4.3 inch large screen multifunction Android Phone or an Apple iPad2. So nothing has changed even with all the Android and WebOS Tablets that have come on the market just take a quick look at any reviews and note the relative battery life and the amount and quality of applications running on them next to any Apple iPad2.
Apple continues to be the smartest player in the game forcing these parasitic companies to go HTML5 and stop wasting Apple’s time hosting their retail applications on it’s server space for free.
