This is Part 1 of Teddypig’s Hackintosh series…

Part One is here… Teddypig’s Hackintosh ~ Parts Is Parts
Part Two is here… Teddypig’s Hackintosh ~ The Setup
Part Three is here… Teddypig’s Hackintosh ~ The Final Hack

I am typing this post out to you on my completely new and very stable Mac Mini replacement Hackintosh. In fact the thing is so freaking fast and so 16 Gig powerful it is not even a replacement for my Mac Mini it’s a freaking Mac Pro even though I paid about as much for it as I did the Mac Mini.

About $1100 in all. And in these times we all have to save every penny. Call me the penny pinching piggy.

Let’s look at the parts today and then I will get into the deep dark secrets on how to install Mac OSX Lion in the next blog post…

First before we begin go here to TonymacX86 and register and get familiar with the website if you are seriously considering doing this. You have to register to get the special software he has so go do it.

He is the source of all Hackintosh. So go show him the love people.

Apple OSX Lion USB Thumbdrive

Apple OSX Lion USB Thumbdrive
Forget downloading Mac OSX Lion from the App Store. Fuck that shit! Go on the Apple website proper and force them for waaay toooo much money to mail you the stupid thumbdrive.

I am so against digital only OS software in this case. It is important to have a copy, a backup, a “get out of jail free card” and sometimes we cannot network or even get into the damn computer right at the very point when we need an install disk the most.

So spend the extra money and get the thumbdrive and I promise I will show you something super cool to do with that thumbdrive later. it saves time and headaches so go my friends buy the sacred Apple thumbdrive.

Cooler Master Elite 341 RC-341C-KKN1-GP

Cooler Master Elite 341 RC-341C-KKN1-GP
It’s a case. A black case. The computer lives in it and you should never spend very much on a case. *snore* NEXT!

OCZ Mod XStream PRO 500w

OCZ Mod XStream PRO 500w
It’s a power supply. Buy it. Enough said about that.

Intel Core i5 or i7

Intel Core i5 or i7
I bought an i5 but this machine is so cranking I should have gone i7. Anyway the main point is check and make sure you are buying it with Intel HD Graphics 3000 since it seems from what I hear the Hackintosh people are planning to use that nifty ability later on.

Gigabyte GA-Z68MX-UD2H-B3 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard

Gigabyte GA-Z68MX-UD2H-B3 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
In my experience a motherboard is a motherboard but that is not the point of what we are going to be doing here. It’s not to get the “best” “most advanced” or even the fastest doohicky. It’s to get a stable Hackintosh so grab this motherboard not because it is on sale or the rebate looks particularly good but because it does the right things we need it to do loading Mac OSX and the price is not that bad and I know how to configure the setup for it.

Gigabyte GV-R685OC-1GD Radeon HD 6850

Gigabyte GV-R685OC-1GD Radeon HD 6850
Again, we are not shopping for the latest or greatest or the most fastestest or the clearest picture at 99999 by 10000000 pixel densitillyhoo. This video card is supported by Mac OSX Lion out of the box with no need to even add any drivers.
So that is why we are getting it.

Sony Optiarc DVD Burner

Sony Optiarc DVD Burner
My Mac Mini uses a Sony Optiarc drive so that is probably why we should too. Buy the black one because I said so. Black works fasterer I promise.

OCZ Agility 3 AGT3-25SAT3-120G 120GB SATA III

OCZ Agility 3 AGT3-25SAT3-120G 120GB SATA III
I splurged! Damn if it is not sweeeeeet! This is a small SSD drive and it flys I tell you. Hell, it would probably make Windows work faster and find a cure for cancer. Anyway, even with splurging like this I am still way below any fully loaded Mac Mini in price.
So there!

Corsair Vengeance 4GB DDR3

Corsair Vengeance 4GB DDR3
Vengeance is mine sayeth da pig! There is something twisted about this new memory and I cannot quite put my finger on it. OUCH! Anyway, I went a little bit overboard here with four sticks of 4 gig memory total but I use memory like I use my checkbook.

Well, I have to have money… I still have checks in the book don’t I?

You should see Photoshop load in three seconds or less. it’s a thing of beauty.

Belkin F8T016 Mini Bluetooth Adapter

Belkin F8T016 Mini Bluetooth Adapter
Everybody needs a useless Bluetooth adapter filling up one of their USB ports for no reason so if you need Bluetooth or if you just might need Bluetooth this thing works with Mac OSX out of the box no drivers.

Oh and lastly… remember the Rosewill: RNX-N180UBE I posted about recently well grab that USB Wireless network adapter too if you want to go wireless with this thing.

As far as putting this together do what I do and have your geek husband slap it in place. Because to be perfectly honest I ruined a motherboard attempting to do it myself. You should not use a spoon to install the chip? Really?!?! So yeah, get a relatively patient (He’s married to me remember.) less “blind as a bat” geek to do it if it seems a bit over the top for you to try and put it all together.

I totally understand.

Next I tell you the secret steps and magic words to get this thing rocking Max OSX Lion in piggy style. So go order your thumbdrive and get set to crank up the Hackintosh fever.

Oh smack me silly, we are such bad bad haxzors. Hack the planet!
