With the new iOS5 the Stanza application has stopped functioning. So it has to be Apple’s fault right?
The facts are Apple and iOS5 did not kill Stanza.
AMAZON KILLED STANZA YEARS AGO YOU FUCKING CLUELESS IDIOTS!
I swear there are some dense people out there who have no idea what the hell is going on or who bought what but you best believe they will flap those gums telling you lie after lie about it all.
I liked Stanza. I used Stanza back when it first came out. I told many many people to use Stanza. I had a link on this page under eBook Apps for like ever and ever.
But the fact remains the minute they sold their ass to Amazon was the minute all development on Stanza stopped and all the developers were herded over in a Nazi death march to the Kindle application.
Listen, despite using iBooks for storing and reading my PDF files that does not mean I buy anything eBook like from Apple. Hell, I try my best not to buy anything Amazon Kindle like either and I want there to be healthy, thriving, fully supported, independent eBook reading applications out there. I want there to be healthy ePublishers too for the same reasons.
I really do…
BUT! Stanza was not an example of one of those healthy, fully supported, applications. It was an example of an application that sold itself lock, stock, and barrel, to “the man”.
Blaming Apple for an application Amazon blatantly bought and dismantled years ago is really a craptastic spin of bias bullshit. Put the blame where it ought to be in the first place… Amazon, since there is more than enough things you can actually get away with blaming Apple for if you spend any time at all paying attention that is.

I used Stanza a lot. I loved the wifi connection to my Calibre library, and it had a great range of colors and fonts so I could customize more than with any other reading program. But it was clear that it wasn’t being worked on anymore, and I was just grateful it worked as well as it did and didn’t crash more often.
Amazon torpedoed Stanza ages ago. And even if they hadn’t, it’s not Apple’s job to ensure that apps work in the next OS. That’s up to the developers. And these developers left the stage months if not years ago (I read that it was updated in February 2011 but I sure couldn’t tell).
I wish it still worked. But it doesn’t. Get over it, people. And I’m not an Apple fanboi(girl). I’m more than happy to bash them for all kinds of things.
It’s kind of more effective if, when you bash them, it’s about things they’ve actually done.
