I have really been making an attempt to get back into the swing of things here on the blog.
This whole Lena Matthews thing really points out my problem with promoting eBooks in general.
Why bother? No really…
I get the whole piracy is wrong deally and all that but when I see supposedly experienced ePublished authors start publicly degrading themselves by harassing folks “they say” are pirating by not doing the right thing and sending the website involved a DCMA take down notice or seeking legal due process as is their right.
But… simply ganging up as a whole gaggle of disgruntled authors and having a party on some fucked up craptastic high school locker room website where they publicly post names and faces and email addresses and scrawl nasty names on the wall with no clue if those people actually did anything or might be victims of crime themselves.
I don’t know guys… This whole playing online judge and jury deal. Man, I simply cannot hang with this crowd of self entitled fuckwads. If this is what it has come down to, if this is your idea of fun…
Lena Matthews and her crowd disgust me in ways I do not even want to get into.
It’s one thing to lawyer up and seek justice quietly but firmly in a professional manner. If you have been done wrong that is accepted and expected and is everyone’s right.
But this garbage? Well it’s fucked up nasty ass garbage. Fuck that shit! Lena Matthews just gave eBook authors in general a bad bad name and I actually see authors defending her insane ass like “oh yeah what’s the problem?”. I guess there is no shame anymore just a bunch of entitled children roaming the halls looking for some weaker kid to pick on.
So now people are not just using their websites to sell their eBooks and let people know about the latest book coming out. You know, professional behavior and all that. Now it’s using your websites to wage vendettas against reviewers you hate and publicly shaming people “they accuse of being pirates” and whatever other immature games you think you can get away with by using your position as an author. Using your fan base like a mob is not going to end well Dr. Franken “Ego” Stein.
There is something really wrong in Whoville tonight folks and I am not liking the smell.

Thank you. I stumbled across all these posts by accident. After the little bit I read, I will likely never buy a book from Ms. Matthews or her cohorts. They are, as you said, acting like bullying high schoolers who believe their way is the only way.

Agreed. After the drivel I read earlier, I wouldn’t buy one either. There are plenty of authors out there for me to buy from. :)
I doubt any of the complainers are going to see an increase in revenue from this spat. They will see people who may have been potential customers avoiding their work.

True. Every time I see an author go on a wankfest about piracy, I tend to avoid them. Oh well.
Tis a very dangerous thing to do when readers have far more choice than ever before.

I see all this as an abuse.
Last night all Lena Matthews wanted to do was make what I said about her ass equal to what she is doing.
The problem is I and those people she is attacking and calling pirates and thieves are not well known authors.
She does have a podium that others have no access too.
I do not get why she fails to see that responsibility but hey, maturity is obviously not her strong point.

I am going to be really amused if she is scraping blog posts from other authors complaining about piracy. REALLY amused. She might be asking permission to repost, but it is not clearly noted.
Oh, the irony…

Oh I am sure if she forgot to ask she will play it off like all the other bad behavior.
She’s sick and a victim of life so that makes anything she does OK and right as rain.
Never mind those legal issues hiding behind her. She’s a victim dammit!

Did you catch what Roslyn Holcomb was saying about the actions of her and her good friend Lena over on Mrs. Giggles?
http://mrsgiggles.blog.com/2011/10/18/author-turned-vigilante-crusader-never-a-good-idea/
“I think I’ve already made the argument of my belief that what Lena is doing WON’T alienate her fans. Will it alienate Romancelandia? Sure probably but so what? Depending on which way the trade winds are blowing Romancelandia can get their panties in a bunch over pretty much anything. Besides, we’ve never been a part of that anyway. But the people who actually buy our books either won’t know, or they won’t care.
I read and follow several sites that cater to IR/MC readers and guess what, they’re either voicing their approval, or saying nothing at all. The mindset in the IR/MC community is different from the mainstream and for that I am and always have been eternally grateful.”
So they fucking know what they are doing is crap. They know they will get their asses and everyone who joins them in trouble and they figure they are just better than everyone else so they will just pack their little bags and head out when the shit goes down.
But hey who cares about the disgruntled readers and the authors who don’t have a back door policy. They do not hold themselves accountable so why should anyone else?
Fucking thugs man fucking scumbag thugs.

Why does it always come down to Romancelandia in the end?

Because we are the lowest being Romance readers I guess or something.
Makes you wonder when Romance writers start acting like it’s low rent.

See what I mean? Lars Ulrich! People like this are in for a big surprise.

If there is a “Romancelandia”, I suspect I am an undocumented migrant worker there.

Worker? Worker? You get paid?
I have to pay for this privilege of watching some pretty disturbing behavior at the cost of several hundred dollars a year.
Not to mention all the eBooks I pay for out of my own pocket.

No one is in for a big surprise. IR/MC readers are very loyal and obviuosly you’re not a reader of the subgenre because you don’t even get she’s speaking in code. Romancelandia is mainstream readers or review sites like yours, Dear Author, Smart Bitches who basically ignore the genre.

What does unprofessional behavior have to do with IR/MC?
Are you suggesting they have a “lower standard” that allows for this type of poor taste and legally questionable activities?
When did Gay Romance go mainstream? Did I miss something, who forgot to send me that memo???
