From: KALW ~ Goodbye, State Funding For California Libraries
Never fear the corporations and the wealthy will not be taxed or sullied by your petty laws because they bought their politicians and supreme court justices fair and square but you poor folks don’t deserve your free libraries when we have to bail out more banks.
Forget about shame be a proud ignorant bigot vote Republican and help sell out America today!

This made me go look at my state’s library funding (Texas). I guess we should be happy to still have some funding. Of course 20M to 7M is a little bit of a decrease. At the same time we are giving tax incentives for companies to relocate here. Such as “An eight-year limitation on the taxable property value for school district maintenance and operations tax purposes and a tax credit.”
I love this quote from our Governor – Rick Perry.
“… We followed the directions laid out by voters last November, and balanced our budget by prioritizing and reducing spending without raising taxes. I’m proud of Texas lawmakers’ hard work to accomplish this goal, which positions Texas for continued job growth and ongoing prosperity for Texas families in the years to come.”

Yeah, the direction is always defunding the future and increasing corporate takeover of our politics today. It’s back to the age of the Robber Baron for us.

Who needs a library when the education system is so poor that people can’t read? Seriously, though, all state funded services are being hit hard in California. They had some idea that not taxing big corporations would keep jobs in the state. Hah! Greedy people never pay back. They simply outsourced and kept the tax savings for themselves.
The Central Library will find funding elsewhere. The place is so busy you can’t find a seat and once you do you can’t leave it for a second, someone else will snatch it up. Whether they are reading or just seeking shelter is questionable, but it won’t be closing soon.
