Looky there! It’s good old EA with a naughty Christmas freebie. I always thought Evangeline Anderson would be better in the self pub game than most other writers since she has worked with so many different ePubs and so many different editors she sorta does her own editing I suspect since every eBook from her reads in the same style.

We can check if my crazy EA rule is still in effect. “100 pages or less” is Good EA, “over 100 pages or more” is Bad EA. You can prove it or disprove it for free.

What is with the self pub eBooks always having the crappy covers but those candy wrapper epubs can pump nice covers out all day long? The name of the author here is bigger than the title of the freaking book and the title is somewhere playing hide and seek with the mantitty. What book are you reading? Oh something called “Josh Lanyon” but funny thing is there are no characters with that name…

(Pssst… Most people initially buy books for their subject matter not the author’s name.)

It’s like a disconnect. I mean if you believe in something and think it has real value don’t you want to show it to the potential new customer all dressed up nice? Just because you are self pubbing does not mean the investment and effort in creating an at least “tasteful professional level” product should not be made. Bonus if you make it interesting. Quit lying to yourself that readers will not be turned off by a messed up amateurish cover. Don’t use an image if the image sucks. Graphic Design is not just about Photoshop and mantitty. That is why there is also Illustrator which can just be tasteful fonts and a nice color choice for the background.

Notice how sometimes even bestsellers (The Help) will have like just random nice images like birds and some nice lettering on a bright eye catching background that has nothing to do with the subject matter? It’s a default that sells obviously. Professionals know this stuff if you don’t then that seems to be as good a reason as any to find one. If you were getting business cards made you would be dealing with people who could do better than this for a cover and it seems to me with self pubbing your book is your business card.

I just don’t get it.
